NVL (No Value of Life) is failing to roleplay realistic fear for your character's survival. Understanding and following NVL rules is fundamental to immersive roleplay on any FiveM server.
What Does NVL Mean?
NVL stands for No Value of Life — acting in ways that show your character doesn't care about dying. In reality, people fear death and avoid life-threatening situations. Your RP character should behave the same way, even though death in-game isn't permanent.
Fear RP Connection
NVL is closely related to Fear RP — roleplaying appropriate fear when threatened. If four armed gang members surround you and demand your wallet, a realistic response is compliance, not pulling out your own gun and trying to fight. Fear RP creates tension and drama.
Common NVL Examples
NVL includes: ignoring someone pointing a gun at you, fighting multiple armed attackers while alone, jumping off buildings to escape, driving recklessly into gunfire, refusing to comply when clearly outgunned, or acting like your character can't be killed. All break immersion.
Why NVL Rules Exist
Without NVL rules, roleplay becomes unrealistic and frustrating. Criminals can't rob anyone because victims just run away. Hostage situations become meaningless. Police encounters turn into shootouts instead of tense standoffs. NVL rules preserve the stakes that make RP exciting.
Balancing NVL and Action
NVL doesn't mean you can never fight back. If you have a reasonable chance of survival, you can act. If you're armed and someone tries to mug you, you might draw your weapon. The rule is about reasonable responses — not suicidal heroics against impossible odds.
